So I have decided on a concept for the solo record...tentatively called, Salem Songs. The record will be inspired by the diaries of my 2nd Great Grandfather, William J. Beaty. I will also be grabbing inspiration form another memoir written by a farm hand that later married William J. Beaty's stepdaughter Jennie Bell Hunter. These relatives lived in Salem, NY and saw great things in their lifetimes. Civil War....from Log Cabin to Amazingly huge house built with love and bare hands...from horse and buggy...to the motor powered car...crazy...only 2 generations before William J. Beaty...my 4th Great Grandfather came to Salem with his father Thomas Beaty from Ballybay, Ireland. This is as far back as I have gone with the Beaty tree so far and the most documented time is of William J. and family. Building a farm in Salem, NY. I plan to put myself in that place and tell a story with my imagination and some fact...I do not plan to try and be all civil war about the music...but folky style music is where I am anyhow and I think a mixture of all things will be cool. I have been listening to a lot of psychedelic rock and folk stuff and it's been very inspiring...I also plan to draw inspiration from photos...here are a few to check out:
